IN THE MOUNTAINS
After having walked all day in the tree forest of the Carpathian Mountains, near a small town called Kosmach, I was surprised to hear a soplika (a Ukrainian flute).
At the beginning, I was lost in my mind and I thought it was figment of my imagination. I allowed myself to be led by this pleasing melody. After half an hour walking, I came face to face with a young shepherd who was playing with his herd of cows in a huge glade in the middle of the wood. Thanks to the magic of the music, I discovered an incredibly beautiful place where this young man lives with his family from the end of May until the end of September. In this place, they make Brenza (a Carpathian cheese), and dairy products that compose their meal. I had the pleasure to be invited to eat with them, and I enjoyed their cheese, butter, fresh cream and milk.
I will always remember this generous and warm unexpected encounter. Flavors I shared that day are much better than the European food legislation. My words are not strong enough to describe the pleasure I had.
